Waiting in line at the Post Office

I went to the Post Office on Saturday afternoon and stood in line for good forty five minutes. But I did get some drawing done, there were a lot of parents with their kids waiting in the Passport line so I got to sketch kids and babies for the first time! I did a number of sketches, but the kids move so damn fast it's very hard to get a good gesture.

Man with a Hat

Man with a stylish hat on path train from Grove st to 14th st. He kept moving his arms, so I could not get the placement quite right and he's missing one arm, but overall I like the sketch.

Lost

So, I left my friend at a station cuz I spaced out while doing this drawing. The doors closed before I could get off the train! It was awful because she's not the type you can leave alone anywhere, especially Brooklyn. The drama was intense!! Was this drawing totally worth it?

deja vu

While doing this drawing, I realized that my sketches show my nostalgia for the past. I see that the features of this woman's face are similar to my mothers, and that my compositions relate to my family's old photographs. It is hard for me to point out exactly what I am trying to capture when I draw from life, but I do get into that moment of flow when my eyes see and my hand follows. My mind wonders about subjects unrelated, and sometimes I don't think at all, its like meditation almost. Drawing keeps me sane, and sometimes makes me completely neurotic but I love it.
